Kendra Rai

is a three-time Helen Hayes award winner for Outstanding Costume Design and has been nominated for the award nine times. She has designed well over 100 productions, including International, DC, NYC, and Regional stagings of theater, opera and dance. Kendra is a Princess Grace Honorarium recipient and a member of United Scenic Artists. Kendra holds a double degree from Pennsylvania State University in both Costume design and Technology. Besides designing costumes, Kendra has worked as a draper, craft artisan, master sewer, dyer/painter, and a Costume Shop Manager. She has also held faculty, lecturer, and adjunct positions at Gallaudet University, University of Pittsburgh, Howard University, and is currently the Interim Assistant Professor of Costume design at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Neno Russell

is a professional patternmaker/draper and costume designer. He received a BS in Speech & Theatre from Middle Tennessee State University in 1991 and an MFA in Costume Technology from Florida State University in 1994. He was the Assistant Costume Shop Manager of the Williamstown Theatre Festival for the 1994 season and the Associate Costume Master at the New York Public Theatre from 1996-1999. As a cutter/ draper for theatre, Neno has constructed costumes for New York’s leading costume designers, Kathy Zuber, Jess Goldstein, Martin Paklidinaz, Ann Hould-Ward, Toni-Leslie James, Marina Draghici, Carrie Robbins and Paul Tazewell to name a few. For the commercial fashion industry for Wells Pattern Service in NY, he was the lead patternmaker for the fashion lines of Peter Som, Elijah, Baby Phat, Araks, Jockey Active Wear Collection and Bell by Alicia Bell.

Neno was the Associate Costume Designer on the 2009 Broadway revival of Finian’s Rainbow, Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life and Footloose and constructed costumes for the Broadway productions of Bring in da’ Noise Bring in da’ Funk and The Rose Tattoo. He was also an assistant costume designer for 22 episodes of Whoopi on NBC. Recently Neno has patterned and built costumes for the world premiere of Amazing Grace at Goodspeed Opera House, Cotton Club Parade for New York City Center Encores and Twelfth Night at the Public Theatre/Shakespeare in the Park. Neno has designed over 70 national commercials (including: MTV, VHI, Journeys, Thomasville, Petsmart, NFL Films, The History Channel and Old Navy) and designed 7 documentaries for the History Channel. Academically, he served as interim professor in the theatre department at Middle Tennessee State University and was a 2007 Design Respondent for Region IV of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) and has taught costumes for The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts for 10 years.

Daughtrey

received her B. A. in Drama from the University of Virginia in 1997. Since then she has worked in a variety of lighting professions, but has never stopped designing for live performances. She is currently in System Sales at Barbizon Capitol and is the President of the Illuminating Engineering Society - Richmond Chapter.

Gretta Daughtrey has been designing with light professionally for over 20 years. Her designs have been seen regionally for the City of Richmond - Festival of Arts (VA), City Dance, Jane Franklin Dance Company, Henrico Theatre Company (VA), University of Richmond (VA), James Madison University (VA), The University of Virginia (VA), Chamberlayne Actors Theatre (VA), George Washington University (DC), Capitol City Opera & KGB Productions (VA/MA).

Ms. Daughtrey has also taught in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Richmond and in the Department of Dance and Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to her formal teaching opportunities, Gretta has worked with many local Richmond Schools to both educate their students, assist with the production quality of their performances and help plan infrastructure improvements for their lighting systems.
